X-Prize contender, Zero Pollution Motors is nearing production with its compressed air engine. The first cars are scheduled to hit the roads of the United States by 2010. The cost to fill the vehicles air tanks is roughly around $2.00 in energy and with that you'll be able to travel about 120 miles.
Using compressed air as an energy source presents some exciting solutions to common alternative fuel concerns. For one, it air is all around us and a compressor is not a difficult thing for existing refueling station to install. Second, the time to refuel the vehicle is drastically reduced (2-3 minutes) verses other energy sources such as batteries (usually 4 hours).
